| Huang Ju Meets with President Mubarak And Holds Talks with Prime Minister Nazef of Egypt |

On November 21, 2004, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council Huang Ju met with the Egyptian President Mubarak and talked with the Prime Minister Nazef.
Mubarak said that the Egyptian people cherish deeply the friendship with the Chinese people. The sound political relationship between the two countries provides huge potential for expanding bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Egypt is building the Suez economic zone and hopes to learn from China's experience in developing the special economic zones and enhance cooperation with China. He emphasized that the Egyptian government and he himself pay great attention to the strategic partnership with China and are fully confident of the prospect of the relationship between the two countries.
Huang Ju said that President Hu Jintao and his Egyptian counterpart jointly identified the direction for bilateral relationship in the new century when he visited Egypt earlier this year. Progress has been made in the relationship between the two countries especially in economic and trade cooperation with the efforts from both sides. The trade between China and Egypt develops rapidly, a new step has been made in the cooperation of Suez economic zone, a joint working coordination mechanism between China and Egypt has been established and part of the projects have entered the formal implementation phase. Huang Ju pointed out that Egypt is the important cooperative partner of China in Arabic and African countries. China will push the development of the strategic cooperation relationship between the two countries together with Egypt.
In the following talk with Prime Minister Nazef, both sides conducted in-depth discussions on economic and trade cooperation. Huang Ju raised the following proposals: first, to enhance contacts between businesses of the two countries with focus on trade in areas with strong complementarity and promote the active and balanced trade development; second, to expand cooperation in high-tech areas such as telecommunications and aviation, promote cooperation on energy and encourage businesses of both countries to conduct reciprocal investment cooperation in a third country in the frameworks of China-Africa Cooperation Forum and China-Arabic Cooperation Forum; third, to improve cooperation on the Suez anal economic zone. It is hoped that Egypt will adjust relevant policies and continue to create conditions to this end; fourth, to continue expanding cooperation on tourism.
Nazef said that Vice Premier Huang Ju's proposals are pragmatic and practicable, to which he totally agrees. He said that Egypt has made a new industrial program for the Suez anal economic zone, made related policies and improved infrastructure. Chinese businesses are welcome to the economic zone to invest in chemical industry, textile and construction materials, etc. Egypt also hopes that the two countries will strengthen cooperation in areas such as transportation and medicine.
Huang Ju started his formal visit to Egypt when he arrives at Cairo on the same day after his formal visit to Turkey on the 20th.
